Common Questions
Everything you need to know about cycling the Limerick to Scarriff greenway
Not at all. The Limerick to Scarriff route is 40km return with a gentle gradient, and you can break it into shorter sections. We structure our rides so you go at your own pace with support stops every 8-10km for rest and refreshments.
You're welcome to bring your own bike. If you'd prefer not to transport yours, we can arrange hire bikes through local partners. Just let us know when you book.
Our bike maintenance workshops cover exactly this. We'll walk you through safety checks, tire pressure, and brake systems so you ride with confidence. These are hands-on sessions, not just lectures, and they're designed for people who aren't mechanics.
The path surface is smooth tarmac with minimal traffic, which is gentler on joints than road cycling. Many riders with arthritis find it manageable, especially on recumbent or e-bikes. We'd recommend discussing your specific concerns when you get in touch, and we can suggest adapted rides or equipment options.
We keep groups small (8-12 riders) with experienced guides at the front and back. Everyone cycles at their own pace between stops, and we regroup at landmarks and rest points. No one's racing anyone—this is about enjoying the route and the company.
Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) are ideal—mild temperatures, longer daylight, and fewer midges. Summer works too if you start early. Winter rides are quieter and beautiful, just dress warmly and we'll check conditions before confirming rides.
